Joey Marra is a Producer of non-fiction at Closer Media, where he is primarily responsible for managing the company’s documentary slate, including the forthcoming feature documentaries ORWELL from Academy Award-nominated director Raoul Peck and MUSK from Academy Award-winning director Alex Gibney. Before joining Closer, Marra held the dual role of Vice President of Development and Executive Producer of Special Projects at Alex Gibney’s Jigsaw Productions. At Jigsaw, Marra was responsible for the development, sale, and production of a diverse slate of premium documentary series and films. These projects included acclaimed documentary series DIRTY MONEY and the four-part documentary series HOW TO CHANGE YOUR MIND on Netflix, Alex Gibney’s feature documentary CRAZY NOT INSANE, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival, Matthew Heineman’s feature documentary CITY OF GHOSTS, the two-time Emmy-nominated documentary series THE LINE on Apple TV+, the two-part documentary TIGER on HBO, Alex Gibney’s documentary THE CRIME OF THE CENTURY on HBO, Jesse Mosse’s documentary series THE FAMILY on Netflix, Jennifer Tiexiera’s documentary series UNVEILED: SURVIVING LA LUZ DEL MUNDO on HBO, Marina Zenovich’s WATER AND POWER: A CALIFORNIA HEIST on National Geographic, Erik Parker and One9’s six-part documentary series HIP-HOP: SONGS THAT SHOOK with Questlove and Black Thought on AMC, and the six-part documentary series ENHANCED on ESPN. While at Jigsaw, Marra also launched the company’s audio unit where he was responsible for the development, sale, and oversight of a slate of critically acclaimed and award-winning podcasts. These projects include the Dupont Award-winning podcast THE LINE hosted by Dan Taberski, Apple's first original narrative non-fiction podcast, MELTDOWN on Audible, and a forthcoming 10-episode audio documentary in production at Audible hosted by Leon Neyfakh. Prior to Jigsaw, Marra was a freelance writer and producer on documentary series that include three seasons of National Geographic’s Emmy-nominated series BRAIN GAMES and AMC’s documentary series MAKING OF THE MOB. He began his career in film and television as a coordinator at National Geographic where he worked on a wide range of projects that include COSMOS: A SPACETIME ODYSSEY and JAMES CAMERON: VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE EARTH. His production assignments have taken him across the United States, Europe, South America, and Asia.
